History
In 1956, the first membership meeting of parents from the local Christian Reformed
Church met together to discuss the possibility of forming a Christian school in
Barrie. Their aim was to provide a learning environment that proclaimed Jesus Christ
as Lord over all areas of life, including education, and in an environment that
taught values that were consistent with their Christian homes.
In 1959, 3 ½ acres of land was purchased near the end of a dead end lane which led
to what was once known as the Ferris Farmstead. Through much prayer and vision,
the Timothy Christian Elementary School was officially given its name in 1962.
In 1963, a three classroom school was built and its doors were officially opened
to 70 students that fall. The Lord blessed our school with much growth so that expansion
of the facilities was required. In 1965 an addition of one classroom, hallway and
office was built; in 1974 a new addition of two classrooms was completed; in 1978
a new library and storage facility was built; in 1988 Timothy had doubled in size
and added an addition of a gym, library, kitchen, all purpose room, storage and
electrical room and change rooms with washrooms.
In 1988, Timothy celebrated 25 years of Christian education. The anniversary celebration
provided our Christian School Society with an opportunity to reflect on God's blessings
and to give Him praise. Many of our original members were present.
From 1990 to 2005, the Lord blessed Timothy with significant growth and enrolment.
We have grown to be an interdenominational school that is culturally diverse. A
new school building was built to accommodate the increased student numbers. We praise
God for his provision. The doors opened on Essa Road on May 5, 2005 and we celebrated
the opening with a Service of Dedication and Praise.
The future for our school is bright, and with the Lord’s blessing and guidance,
we will continue to celebrate God’s grace, as we provide Christian education for
Christian families to the greater Simcoe region.
